Bayview Portraits
About bayview portraits
An orphan from Laos. A gardener from Kyrgyzstan. A community leader from Nigeria. The Bayview community is a mosaic of stories, memories, and journeys from around the world, coming together in this quiet downtown neighborhood.
As the community readies for the final phase of its complete redevelopment, Bayview Portraits establishes a record of the people who call this community home. The book features 32 Bayview families in photos by Jamie Ho and stories as told to Jenie Gao.
Through Bayview Portraits, Gao and Ho draw together the many threads of Bayview families — the histories, the cultures — and provide a glimpse into how they come together as the colorful fabric of this unique community.
First and foremost, Bayview Portraits is a gift to the people who call this place home. For many of them, this is the first time that they have shared their stories with anyone, including their relatives. It is our hope that this record makes it possible for these families to share and pass down their stories with their loved ones.
